Nitrate Vault

The SIA manages 180 cubic feet of nitrate based photographic materials from six Smithsonian Institution repositories, including the SIA, which are located in the Library of Congress' vaults at Suitland, Maryland. The major activity for this year was rehousing by the Preservation Team of all SI collections in the vaults in anticipation of a possible relocation of the materials to a new facility in the next fiscal year. All collections were placed into new outer boxes, or were bundled together in cubic foot configurations. Other activities included the transfer of over ten cubic feet of material to the vault from SIA and NAA collections.
