Edie Hedlin attended the annual meeting of the Society of American Archivists in September, 2000, serving as commentator at a session titled "Thirty Year's Perspective: History of the Electronic Records Program at the National Archives and Records Administration." She also attended the annual meeting of the Research Libraries Group and the American Association of Museums, both in May of 2000. She reviewed: "A Guide to the Official Archives of the Natural History Museum, London," ISIS (91:1) March 2000. She continued service on the Board of the Hagley Museum and Library, and the Governing Council of Rockefeller Archive Center. For the latter, she chaired an Archivists' Visiting Committee charged with reviewing the Center's program, drafted the Committee's report, and continued to serve on an Ad Hoc Mission Committee. National Collections ProgramLauri A. Swann attended the annual meeting of the American Association of Museums held in Baltimore in May 2000. William G. Tompkins chaired a session at the annual meeting of the American Association of Museums (Baltimore, MD), "When Due Diligence Comes Due: Case Studies in the Acquisition of Collections." Tompkins continued to serve as an ad hoc lecturer for The George Washington University Museum Studies Program. Tompkins continued to serve as the Smithsonian representative on the Interagency Federal Collections Working Group, and served on the Steering Committee for the third conference "Partnership Opportunities for Federally-Associated Collections" held in Austin, Texas in November. He also served on an advisory committee regarding BIA collections for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Department of Interior. Tompkins served on the Board of the Registrars Committee of the American Association of Museums and as Reprints/Publications Coordinator as well as chair of the Loans Task Force of RC-AAM. Tompkins represented the National Collections Program at the American Association of Museums annual meeting (Baltimore, MD) and the American Law Institute and American Bar Association Course of Study "Legal Problems of Museum Administration" (Boston, MA). Institutional History DivisionPamela M. Henson presented a paper on the history of entomological illustration as the annual meeting of the Entomological Society of America (Atlanta). She gave a lecture on Smithsonian fieldwork in Latin America at the Johns Hopkins University graduate seminar in June and in July a lecture on the history of the National Zoological Park to staff of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Henson served as a member of the Nominating Committee and on the Madison and Thomson Prize Committee for the Society for History in the Federal Government. She attended the Oral History Association annual meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, chairing a session on uses of sensitive materials; the History of Science Society annual meeting in Pittsburgh in November; and the Oral History in the Mid-Atlantic Region spring meeting at George Mason University. She served as a judge at National History Day in June. Marc Rothenberg served as a judge at National History Day for the twenty-first consecutive year. He received an award of appreciation from National History Day recognizing his service. He also continued to serve as a member of the History Project Advisory Committee of the United States Geological Survey and Treasurer, chair of the Committee on Finance, and member of the Executive Committee of the History of Science Society. He served as a manuscript reviewer for the Smithsonian Institution Press and a reviewer of proposals for the National Science Foundation. In October 1999 Rothenberg attended the annual meeting of the Association for Documentary Editing; in November the annual meeting of the History of Science Society (Pittsburgh); and the combined meeting of the History of Science Society (U.S.), British Society for the History of Science, and the Canadian Society for the History and Philosophy of Science in August. Kathleen W. Dorman and Frank R. Millikan attended the annual meeting of the Association for Documentary Editing (Charlottesville, VA) in October 1999. Dorman also served as a member of the ADE's website initiative committee. Technical Services DivisionFynnette Eaton completed her three-year term as a member of the Society of American Archivists (SAA) Council. She represented the Smithsonian Institution at the National Forum on Archival Continuing Education, sponsored by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in April 2000 and was appointed to serve as the SAA representative to the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, beginning May 2001. She was asked to attend both the May and November 2000 meetings in preparation for this position and a conference on electronic documents sponsored by the National Institute for Standards and Technology. Eaton also presented "Preserving Electronic Data in the Museum" at the Museum Computer Network Conference in Philadelphia in October 1999; participated in a colloquium for University of California, Los Angeles students and faculty during the American Team, InterPARES meeting in December; presented "Migration as a Preservation Strategy" at the Nelinet conference in Boston in June, and chaired the SAA session "Thirty Years' Perspective: Evolution in Managing Archival Electronic Records at the National Archives and Records Administration." She also published "Automated Preservation of Electronic Records: A Case Study of the Archival Preservation System," IASSIST Quarterly, XXIII, No. 4, winter 1999. Michael Horsley attended "Preserving Photographs in a Digital World," a one-week seminar offered by the George Eastman House/Rochester Institute of Technology, August 2000, the Annual Meeting of the American Institute of Conservators in June 2000. Alyssa Pease attended the Association of Moving Image Archivists Conference in November 1999, a lecture on exhibition of document collections offered by SCMRE, October 1999, and the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts Conference on Architectural Drawings in May 2000. Sarah Stauderman served as Vice-chair of the Electronic Media Group for the American Institute for Conservation and as a co-chair of the Publications Committee and Board director for the Washington Conservation Guild. She also presented "Collecting Video Art: What Are the Minimum Accession Requirements,"at a general session of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) annual meeting in June 2000 and served as a lecturer on magnetic media conservation for the University of Maryland MLIS program, summer 2000 session. Archives DivisionAlan Bain continued to serve on the United States Geological Survey History Project Advisory Board and attended the Library and Museum Archives Institute workshop, June 23-24, Wilbraham, Massachusetts, to work on developing the Institute program for 2001. He attended the Society of American Archivists annual meeting, Denver, Colorado, August 29-September 1, 2000. Kathleen Williams attended the Society of American Archivists annual meeting in Denver (August 2000), and she was chosen to serve on its host committee for the 2001 annual meeting in Washington, D.C. Tracy Robinson represented SIA at the D.C.
