DESCRIPTIVE ENTRY
These records document the educational outreach activities of the Office of the Assistant Provost for Educational and Cultural Programs, with earlier records dating back when it was known as the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Public Service and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Education and Public Service. Materials include the correspondence and memoranda of James C. Early, Executive Assistant, 1986-1987, Deputy Assistant Secretary, 1988-1989, Acting Assistant Secretary, 1990, and Assistant Secretary, 1991, for Public Programs; Assistant Secretary for Education and Public Service, 1992-1994, and Education and Cultural Programs, 1994; and Assistant Provost for Educational and Cultural Programs, 1994-1995. Records also include the correspondence, memoranda, and notes of Manjula Kumar, former Program Specialist for Public Service, 1989-1992; and Program Manager for Education and Public Service, 1992-1994, and Educational and Cultural Programs, 1994- .
In addition are Educational Outreach Fund proposals for various projects; grant and financial reports; information on planned lectures and other social events for the Smithsonian's annual Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday celebration; cassette tape recordings of the "Black Family Reunion" annual lecture series, Cultural Education Committee meetings, and special events at the Smithsonian; and videotapes of the "Slices of the Universe" program.
