DESCRIPTIVE ENTRY
This record unit consists of correspondence, memoranda, contracts, bids and invitations, proposals, reports and related materials maintained by the Contracts Office concerning Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) projects, especially Project Celescope. Of special interest are materials documenting contracts with Electro-Mechanical Research, Inc., and Westinghouse Research Laboratories for the technical development of Celescope. Also included is similar material concerning SAO projects funded by contracts with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, United States Air Force, National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, and Harvard University.
