HISTORICAL NOTE

In January 1897, Charles D. Walcott, Director of the United States Geological Survey and Honorary Curator of Paleontology in the United States National Museum, assumed the duties of Acting Assistant Secretary. He resigned from the position June 30, 1898.

This record unit consists of outgoing correspondence written by Walcott.
